Five (5) minute exposure of Messier object M42 using a 200mm lens at f/5.6 with Ektachrome ISO 400 slide film taken in Kingston, Ontario. The three bright stars angled diagonally near the top center represent the belt of Orion. The nebula is at bottom center and glows red from the emission of hydrogen excited from the light of newly born stars within.

The one and only sunrise I got up early to photograph ... yes it was worth it. The trouble is if you have a dog as we have, he thinks it's time to get up and go for a walk ... just one more hour in bed, please Max ...
We returned to Stella Point on Amherst Island where we had rented a cottage from friends two years ago. Amherst Island is west of Wolf Island, situated close to Kingston, Ontario in Lake Ontario. A ferry boat called The Frontenac carries cars across every hour from the mainland to Amherst.
It was a wonderful, peaceful week with NO computer or TV, not even a regular paper to read ... sure cuts the stress level almost down to nil, I can tell you.
So one might wonder, what does one do without the above - well, took long walks with Max, our Shih Tzu, which he loved ... took tons of photos ... had the telephoto lens and tripod with me ... sat on the lovely verandah in the morning sipping our coffees and in the later afternoon and evening after dinner, some wonderful wines brought from home ... I did a little water colour painting too ... so nice to do these things with no other tasks demanding my time ... we visited the wonderful city of Kingston a few times. ate at Chez Piggy (awesome food and outdoor patio) ... took in a outdoor concert with the Kingston Symphony playing at Fort Henry. Wonderful evening ... and thank goodness the storm that had hit the Kingston area earlier in the afternoon with winds, thunder and lightning and hail cleared in time for all to enjoy a wonderful evening. The finale was marked with the symphony playing Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture and canon's being fired and fireworks lit on the ramparts of the fort - it was fantastic!
NO INVITES with BIG SPARKLY GRAPHICS. PLEASE, TRY TO RESPECT MY WISHES.
I prefer simple honest comments, rather then a copy & paste of an award code.
Many thanks!

I decided to leave at 4:45 am in the boat to get a different POV of the sunrise- behind the Brother Islands. Again Nature did not disappoint.
