Friday Family Fun Day
The Corniche, Kuwait
March 12, 2010

Started the day with fun and games at Cianna's Family Day at school. Late afternoon was spent at the Waterfront- just a leisure walk with the wife as the girls rode the bike and played at the playground. The day ends with an impromptu picnic on the grass- with the girls having donuts while Mom and I had coffee. Of course, i had to take those light trails from the passing cars.

White Knight IV

2008 Audi R8.

The fourth in my White Knight series. I didn't really like the results from that shoot because I wanted to use the 5D Mark II for it and instead I used the 40D.

Now I can always use the 5D Mark II. Hopefully I will be able to shoot more R8s soon.

cushion concious

Piles of cushions as seen in the Friday Market, a weekend flea market here in Kuwait. These cushions are typically used in dewaniyas.

from wikipedia: The Dewaniya mistakenly & commonly called Diwaniya, has existed in Kuwait since time immemorial. The term originally referred to the section of a bedouin tent where the menfolk and their visitors sat apart from the family. In the old City of Kuwait it was the reception area where a man received his business colleagues and male guests. Today the term refers both to a reception hall and the gathering held in it, and visiting or hosting a dewaniya is an indispensable feature of a Kuwaiti man’s social life.

As a social event, a Dewaniya takes place in the evening in a special room or annex which is usually separate from the rest of a man’s house. Only men are present and they sit around on soft benches or cushions, conversing casually, smoking, nibbling snacks and relaxing over beverages such as tea, coffee or the like. Relatives and friends come and go throughout the evening. The host’s job is to be hospitable and entertain his guests.
