The Basilica of Our Lady of Peace of Yamoussoukro dominates from every point in the city of Yamoussoukro, one of the most unlikely capitals in the world. The Cathedral is the largest in the world, a few m. higher than it's example in Rome. President Félix Houphouët-Boigny of Cote d'Ivoire had the cathedral built 20 years ago in his birthplace that he had made capital of the country. Twenty years later Abidjan remains the economical and political capital of the country though.

Felix Houphouët-Boigny built this magnificent Basilica in Yamoussoukro, his home village. It, like several other monumental buildings, seems very out of place in Africa.
