The Punjab (pentopotamia or the land of five rivers) encompasses an amazing, varied history and cultural heritage that is often overlooked because of the current truncated form of the region. The historical sites and buildings of this region are a testimony to the diverse political, religious and cultural influences that have pervaded the region over many millennia. The Group aims to cover as much variety as possible featuring architecture from pre-Aryan Harappan sites (close to Sahiwal) - a culture that dates to 6000BC, through sites bearing Indo-Greek influence, buildings of religious significance (Muslim, Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Zoroastrian etc), to buildings of political significance.

Shah Rukn e Alam

Sheikh Rukn-ud-Din Abul Fath (1251-1335) commonly known by the title Rukn-e-Alam (pillar of the world) was among the eminent Sufi saints from Multan, Pakistan.

The Shaikh was the son of Pir Sadar-Al-Din Arif born at Multan on Friday, the 9th of Ramadan 649 Hijri (26 November 1251)[1]. He was the grandson and successor of Shaikh Baha-Ud-Din Zakariya.

Shaikh Rukn-e-Alam (Rukn-al-Din) died on Friday, the 7th of Jumada al-awwal 735 Hijri (3 January 1335). He was buried in the mausoleum of his grandfather, according to his own will. After sometime, however, his coffin was transferred to the present mausoleum.

The saint is still revered today and his tomb is the focus of the pilgrimage of over 100,000 pilgrims from all over South Asia who visit and commemorate his memory

Channan Pir is a village in the Punjab province of Pakistan, it is named after a Sufi saint and contains his tomb. It is located at 28°58'0N 71°42'0E between the Derawar and Din Gargh forts and lies a few kilometres from Yazman town, and in the start of the Cholistan desert.

It is an exclusive centre of the spiritual and cultural heritage of Yazman and Cholistan. Cultural activities are observed to be at the peak when the Urs (a religious fair) of Channan Pir (known as the Channan Mela) is held. The urs is held on seven consecutive Thursdays starting in the month of March every year. The visitors throw tabbaruk (the sacred sweet) and the persons who pick and taste this tabarruk are supposed to be fortunate in achieving their worldly pursuits.
