BRISBANE, Australia — New Zealand has no plans to cancel its cricket tour of India and the Australian team is still on track for the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi despite a double bomb blast at an Indian Premier League stadium in Bangalore overnight.
A protest has taken place in the Indian capital Delhi over the release of a group of men who beat up young women in a pub. The case of so-called moral policing has shocked the country. Forty activists from the right-wing Sri Ram Sena barged into a bar in the city of Mangalore and attacked the women. Video of the incident shows how the women were pulled by their hair and thrown out of the pub by almost 30 men. The incident has caused a furore, drawing criticism from all quarters. Some 28 men were arrested but later released on bail. The activists said the women were violating traditional Indian values by drinking alcohol in public and warned that the women would face dire consequences if seen in pubs again. The incident took place on January 24, just two days before India celebrated Republic Day. Video of the attack has become one of the most watched clips on YouTube. Activists from various NGO’s held banners with slogans like “Stop Talibanisation of India.”

India is also trying to equip its Agni ballistic missiles with such warheads and to deploy them on submarines. Its rudimentary missile-defense capability is slated for a major upgrade next year.
“Hey, Mr. Friedman,” they say, “would you like to take a little spin around New Delhi in our car?”
Oh, I say, I’ve heard that line before. Ah, they say, but you haven’t seen this car before. It’s a plug-in electric car that is also powered by rooftop solar panels — and the two young women, recent Yale grads, had just driven it all over India in a “climate caravan” to highlight the solutions to global warming being developed by Indian companies, communities, campuses and innovators, as well as to inspire others to take action.
