Our first destination in India was Cochin, Kerala - a wonderful city caught between the old and new worlds on the coast of the Arabian Sea. We stayed here at the Eden Garden Homestay, a wonderful operation run by Judith and Mel Cyprian who really eased our acclimatization to the Indian climate, cuisine, and way of life.
Their historic family home is built in traditional Keralan style and looks onto a beautiful lush garden full of meandering footpaths, a lilypad-covered pond, and many exotic flowers.

The Taj Mahal; this white marble mausoleum to an Emporers wife is a man-made marvel
Diwali (the festival of lights) brings together all faiths and sees Indian homes wreathed in candle light to ward off evil - forgive and forget
