Tonga Island. This is a scanned picture of a photo I took in the year 1972. The camera was a simple box camera. The location is Tonga one of the exiting South Sea Islands in Polynesia - South Pacific. In the distance of the lagune you can see some small atolls - fringed with coconut palmtrees. I have made some contrast, colour and saturation to improve these old photos. These photos are dedicated to the family of Faleone, who was very kind to me.

He lived near the hotel I was staying in and would come around to the guests and cry for food. It was quite smart of him really, to target the the guests who are more sympathetic to him than the locals would be. There are lots of stray cats in Tonga.

This was by far, the most bizarre thing I saw in Tonga. In the hotel, next to the lift (that didn't work the whole time I was there), was a glass cabinet full of random stuffed birds. Not even Tongan birds! They were dirty and dusty and some were falling apart. It was fascinatingly hideous.

The highlight of the mini bar in my hotel room - well there was only this or the American Peanuts (made in Malaysia). I love Mister Potato's moustache.

On Wednesday nights at our hotel they have a traditional Tongan feast and dancers. The dancers were fantastic. The feast.....well it was not my cup of tea.
