Carstairs Scores for 2001 Scottish Postcode Sectors Carstairs scores are derived by combining selected variables taken from small area Census data. The scores are described as a measure which reflects access to those material resources which provide access to "those goods and services, resources and amenities and of a physical environment which are customary in society" (Carstairs and Morris, 1991). The scores are not a measure of the extent of individual material wellbeing or relative disadvantage but are rather a summary measure applied to populations contained within small geographic localities (McLoone 2004).

"So, Glasgow's better than Edinburgh, right? Better clubbing, better music, better shopping, cheaper travel. Why would you ever want to get on the train to Waverley? We want to hear your reasons why Glasgow is miles ahead of its neighbour. Remember, Edinburgh will have its own arguments for why it's better than Glasgow, so don't pull any punches. The gloves are off."

the aim of this project is to investigate the extent to which Web 2.0 tools represent useful means of communicating, sharing and disseminating research ideas and outputs for researchers across different disciplines, with a view to exploring implications for the future of scholarly communications. The study is aimed at: (i) Informing researchers, institutions and funders on the effectiveness of these new resources as means of communicating, sharing and disseminating research ideas and outputs (ii) Advising research institutions and funders about the possible implications of the use of these resources for the recognition and reward of research outputs (iii) Providing librarians, information professionals and publishers with a view about how they might develop their roles in the scholarly communications process in order to complement the evolution of new means of sharing information in research communities.

47/8 on the suburban line in Edinburgh

In the summer of 1994, a major signalling failure at Haymarket meant that inbound trains from the Carstairs line had to be diverted via the freight-only Edinburgh suburban line.

365-261 The Lovers, Calton Hill, Edinburgh, Scotland at Dusk

Two households, both alike in dignity,
In fair Dùn Èideann, where we lay our scene,
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.
From forth the fatal loins of these two foes
A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life;
Whole misadventured piteous overthrows
Do with their death bury their parents' strife.
The fearful passage of their death-mark'd love,
And the continuance of their parents' rage,
Which, but their children's end, nought could remove,
Is now the two hours' traffic of our stage;
The which if you with patient ears attend,
What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend.

They climbed every hill in the city, finished at Carlton, from a journey from Norfolk and within the big city of smoke and solitude.
