The harp seal that visited Downtown Kingston last week died during the journey to the Riverhead Foundation’s aquarium on Friday, according to Kimberly Durham, a biologist and rescue coordinator for the foundation.

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) - State Senator Antoine Thompson is the latest local lawmaker to join the crusade to save western New York's State Parks. Thompson joined dozens of constituents at Deveaux Woods State Park in Niagara Falls Sunday afternoon. Governor Paterson's proposed budget calls for closing or reducing service at 55 State Parks. Thompson says Paterson needs to find another place to save that money. Representatives from the Audubon Society, Sierra Club, and Adirondack Mountain Club all showed up to support the event.

Last weekend, when looking over at the Adirondack High Peaks- Algonquin and Wright from the summit of Cascade, I realized that those two mountains, decades earlier, were where it all began for me in the outdoors - hiking, photography, and a passion for the Adirondacks. Still a teen at college, those two mountains were my first two Adirondack hikes, first two High Peaks hikes, first full day in the Adirondacks, and first hike along Avalanche Lake. Looking at these two gorgeous mountains just days ago, their beauty is still the same, timeless, and will hopefully be so for future generations. It was that very first climb that continues to ignite my passion for hiking in the Adirondacks, many years later.

After reading a mention in the Andes Gazette of a nesting pair of Bald Eagles on Dingle Hill along the Pepacton Reservoir, my wife and I went to see for ourselves. It was a blustery day, with temps in the mid-30’s, a light rain, snow melt coursing down the hillsides. We found the nest and saw an eagle.

Another from the Threeds shoot. If you're wondering, that's cane she's laying on--the raw material that oboists and bassoonists make their reeds from. Special thanks to Krista Robinson for the use of her repair shop, and the cane!
