RUSSIA AND Ukraine are expected to sign a deal today to end a gas dispute that has starved Balkan homes and industry of energy and deeply undermined European Union confidence in the two countries. Agreement was reached between the uneasy neighbours after marathon talks in Moscow between Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart Yulia Tymoshenko on Saturday.

Pysanky are traditional Ukrainian Easter eggs. They are decorated using a wax-resist method, in which you draw patterns using hot wax and a stylus (kystka), and then dying it. This process is completed until all colors desired were applied, and then the wax is melted off, revealing the ornate patterns and colors underneath.

These pysanky are housed at the House of Ukraine, in Balboa Park’s International Cottages.
