1_Best Hotels page The Republic of Palau is Micronesia's western most island chain. The tightly clustered Palau archipelago, consists of over 200 islands covering a distance of around 125 miles. Palau is the home to one of the world's unique phenomena, the Rock Islands. The Rock Islands are Palau's crowning glory. More than 200 of these jungle-topped knobs of limestone dot the waters for a 20 mile (35km) stretch south of Koror. Their bases, having been worn away by tidal action and grazing sea creatures, are narrower than their tops, causing them to look like emerald-hued mushrooms rising from the turquoise sea. Palau has three ocean currents converging in its waters to bring in some of the most varied and dazzling mari

Micronesia, means "small islands" and is the collective name given to the two thousand, tiny, tropical islands, scattered over an area of more than three million square miles of the Pacific Ocean, between Hawaii and The Philippines. (Some islands are so small they do not appear on many world maps). The eight, main island groups, that form Micronesia include: Guam, The Republic of Palau (Belau), The Marianas, Pohnpei, Yap, Truk (Chuuk), The Marshall Islands and Kosrae. Each island group has its own unique cultures, language, history and attractions. The islands and atolls are the culminating result of volcanic activity, which took place millions of years ago. History Palau's early history is still largely veiled in mystery. Why, how or when people arrived on our beautiful islands is unknown, but studies indicate that today's Palauans are distant relatives of the Malays of Indonesia, Melanesians of New Guinea and Polynesians. As for the date of their arrivals, carbon dating of artifacts from the oldest known village sites on the Rock Islands and the spectacular terraces on Babeldaob place civilization here as early as 1,000 BC.

This is where I stayed in my last night in Palau. It has a really good location in downtown Koror, next to a park, fire station and many restaurants and shops. The rooms are fairly large with a large bath tub. My room had a balcony with a decent view and the standard air-con and cable tv. The reception is friendly and there is a coffee cart in the hallways with little lounge areas by the stairs. I guess they have a lot of people steal their stuff because everything in the room seems to be marked VIP Guest Hotel. I paid $60 US a night for 2 people in a room. I think I hid a jar of pickled mushrooms in my room, so if you stay here and find a jar of pickled mushrooms, let me know. Leave a Comment Theme: Hotel Comparison:

The Carolines Resort is a very unique place even for resort in Palau. All the "rooms" are actually private hand crafted bungalows. The bungalows are modeled after traditional Palauan architecture using local materials such as bamboo, mahogany and mangrove. The structures are made almost entirely from wood. Each bungalow has a private porch and a spectacular view. There are 7 private bungalows situated on a secluded hilltop over looking the beautiful Philippine Sea
