Comoran and Tanzanian African Union soldiers (not in the picture) arrest an injured Anjouanese man after shooting three rockets to his house in Mutsamudu on 25 March 2008. The Comoran army said it had located the renegade leader of the isle of Anjouan, Mohamed Bacar, during the operation it launched earlier March 25, 2008 with the African Union to oust him. Some 400 AND troops backed by around 1,000 soldiers from Sudan and Tanzania launched a offensive before dawn to wrest back control of the isle of Anjouan from Bacar, its self-proclaimed leader, and capture him. Growth just three months on...
Prior to moving to Mānoa Valley in June 2008 I dug it up and kept it in a pot to either give away or plant some place new because I had a hunch (which was correct) that if I left any young plants there, they would die without my daily watering.
I ended up planting it at the second place I lived at this summer in Mānoa Valley and here's what it looks like. I will leave it there because I'm confident there will be enough precipitation for it to keep on growing without me, so long as no one kills it intentionally.
It's a beautiful clumping palm endemic to the islands of Grande Comore and Moheli (Comoros Islands).

This seedling was planted in my former front yard in Kaimukī. Here is a picture of it when it was younger.

I grew this baby from a one-leaf seedling in the fall of 2006, and spent 6 months in the ground in Kaimukī... now thriving in Mānoa.
