BERLIN & BEYOND GERMAN FILM FESTIVAL in SAN FRANCISCO

DER FREUND -THE FREIND
This film played to a near packed house...which had to be 1,000 in the Castro theatre! It is a first time film and IT is SWITZERLANDs entry into the FOREIGN FILM competition at the OSCARS. It won the BEST FIRST FEATURE at the berlin & beyond festival!
THE FRIEND was an excellent solemn mood film where the main charater was exceedingly well developed & portrayed.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
A young nerdy , nothing going on in life, gets infatuated with a local folk singer in Zurich. He tries to connect with her to no avail until she asks him to say he is her girlfriend! Of course he is taken aback but agrees.
Little does he know that she then goes home and commits suicide. The greiving family come to accept him into their family.
Slowly the family dynamics unravel which provide a glimpse into the short, sad life of the singer.
The young guy comes into 'having a life' even if it is a make-belive and a fictious one. Gentely his medacious story unravels and slowly, one-by-one, people in the young girls life find that the guy was never her boyfriend, nor even knew her at all.
He slowly 'grows up' and comes out of his shell. Truely a wonderful film with soft twists and turns.
Beautifully protrayed by a first time actor, and an incredible first film for the director!
The singer also was a first time actor and everyone in the audience remarked how much they loved the sad songs. She is a real singer and her first album is one of the top selling in Switzerland. (on Gentelman Records).

Frana di Brusio in questa foto si può notare il binario spezzato con i sochi lasciati dai due massi rotolati fino al prato e il rischio corso dall'Elicoidale che non è molto distante dalla frane...!!!
